ROGERSVILLE — St. Clair Elementary School Principal Mary Ann Davis recently received a $500 Tennessee Farm Bureau Outdoor Classroom grant from the Agriculture in the Classroom project.

The Outdoor Garden Classroom grant program is designed to show that agriculture is an integral part of our everyday environment and to demonstrate the connection between agriculture, food, fiber, conservation, wildlife and the urban environment.

Fourth-grade teacher Alyson Spirko plans to work with St. Clair students to build raised beds and plant vegetables that will grow in early spring or late fall.

Hawkins County Extension Office agent Jack Price and retired teacher Alice Brooks will be assisting St. Clair Elementary with the outdoor garden classroom.

The check was presented by Hawkins County Farm Bureau officials.

Presenting the check were Jim Wells, president of the Hawkins County Farm Bureau; Judy Bowery, Farm Bureau women’s chairman; Brett Sivert, Bennie Davis, Matthew Ball, Karlene Ely, Elizabeth Price, Joe Couch and Bill Jenkins, members of the board of directors.

St. Clair Elementary already has an outdoor classroom area.
