The Lady Cougars (2-0) opened the game with an 11-0 run before Haley Carden scored a deuce for Hampton at the 4:16 mark of the first period. In the run Central got trey’s from Peyton Sams, Rachel Robinette and Avery Leming.
Hampton was able to close to 24-22 at the half on the strength of 14 second period points from Campbell who overcame a slow start to hit a pair of three-balls and was 6-for-6 from the free throw line.
“We had a hard time keeping up with number 3 (Campbell),” Lady Cougars head coack Kristi Walling. “We started out slow and played a little flat at times, but credit Hampton they are a scrappy team that never gives up. At the half we made an adjustment to go more zone to slow (Campbell) down and made sure we knew where she was.”
Junior post Abbey Crawford scored seven of her 11 points in the first half. Sams led Central with 18 points while Campbell led all scorers with 27 points for Hampton.
With the score 34-31 at the end of three periods the Cougars went on a 16-0 run to open the fourth quarter and take a 48-31 lead led by a 5 points each from Macy McClellan and Leming. A trey from Campbell at the 1:05 mark stopped the bleeding for Hampton.

Despite 18 first half points from Caleb Rose the Cougars fell into a 50-32 halftime hole and were not able to recover. Hampton got 13 first half points from post Jordan Bentley and 12 from Morgan Lyons in the first half.
Rose connected on five 3-point shots in the first half and was good for six triples for the game for 23 points to lead all scorers. Hampton opened a 71-41 lead at the end of the third period with a 21 point period while holding the Cougars to just 9 third quarter points.
Hampton had five players hit double figures with Lyons leading the way with 16, Caleb Oaks had 15 while Jordan Bentley was good for 14, Matt Hughes scored 11 and Rocky Croy had 10.
